The zBoost YX500-CEL and YX500-PCS are two separate units that work on different frequencies. Both cover up to 2,500 square feet, but the different units work for different carriers. The YX500-CEL works with carriers on the 800MHz frequency. Top carriers like Verizon Wireless, T-Mobile and AT&T work in the 800MHz frequency.
The solution is simple. Find the best place outdoors where you get the strongest cell reception. It can be on the roof, attic or on your chimney. It must be placed at least five feet away from metal, because metal interferes with the incoming signal from the cellular tower.
You must then run the coax cable through your house to plug into the base unit. The outdoor antenna is an omni-directional antenna. That means it picks up the signal from more than one cell tower. You don’t have to point it towards the cell tower.
You can purchase upgradeable antennas, like the YX026. It’s a directional antenna, so you would have to point it towards the tower where signal is coming from. This provides a better signal for your base unit to amplify. It would increase your indoor signal because the upgraded antenna does a better job of drawing in the signal from the cellular tower.
If you have AT&T, Alltel or a carrier that works in the 800MHz frequency range, the YX500-CEL is the perfect solution to improve your cell phone signal. The YX500-PCS works on the 1900MHz frequencies for carriers such as Sprint.
